The Enid: Live at Town Hall, Birmingham (2010) Reviews

  • Superlative Music, Seperb DVD

My DVD arrived this morning, and was opened eagerly - and the wait was most certainly worth it. The DVD is THE supreme showcase of the Enid's talent to date and is a masterpiece. Nothing short of a musical and technical Tour-de-Force. All involved should be proud of their achievement. To describe it properly would run out of superlatives, so just sit back, watch, listen, remember it live, and look forward to Birmingham 2011. Thank you for all your efforts since I first saw The Enid live in 1975, and may you all go from strength to strength now. Regards, Steve

  • A wonderful memento of a glorious night

Back in the 1970's I fell in love with a band called The Enid. There were no other bands like them and their fans were very loyal. However, I lost track of them in the mid 80's and over the years they underwent personnel changes and also changes in musical direction. Then for a number of years they were on hiatus. However, in 2009 they re-emerged with a new line-up, with two original members, Robert John Godfrey and drummer Dave Storey, along with vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Max Read, guitarist Jason Ducker and percussionist and bassist Nic Willes. They recorded a new album, Journey's End, and in April 2010 they launched it in a big way with a brass and percussion section from the Chandos orchestra in Birmingham's Town Hall to a sell-out audience. During the second half the band were joined on stage by original guitarist Francis Lickerish, another former Enid member Grant Jamieson, and Jon Beedle who plays with Francis' current band, Secret Green. This was a unique and very special occasion, and so it is only fitting that it should be videoed and released by Casa Films' Antony Meadley - a long-time Enid fan - and his team. As well as the concert in its entirety, there are insightful interviews will all the band members, which are well worth watching. For those of us who were at the concert it is a wonderful memento of an unforgettable night and for those who missed out, it is a chance to see The Enid playing with renewed vigour and their sheer joy at performing. If you have ever heard The Enid you will love this DVD. It is definitely a an essential part of any Enid fan's collection.
