Pinned (2009) Reviews

  • Loved it....and I'm not a wrestler!!

    jennkunes2010-11-21

I saw Pinned at the Cleveland premier and thought it was wonderful, I think the packed house that was there would agree. Reading the summary of the movie does give a good idea of what the movie is about and it's so fun to watch what unfolds as the movie progresses. I'm certainly not a wrestler (although I did have a cousin who was and sadly watched him eat nothing on holidays to make weight as I chowed down!!) but was amazed by the lengths of what someone would go through to be the best. Anyone who knows a wrestler should watch this movie...it's truly amazing and eye-opening to see the extent one will go through to be #1. Anyone who IS a wrestler will watch and relate immediately. Loved it.

  • Exciting look into the harsh world of HS Wrestling.

    TheMovieNerdcom2010-11-22

This movie has a nice mix of energy, excitement and emotion. I have absolutely no interested or background in HS wrestling, heck I don't even know how you win a match!!! and I still managed to enjoy this movie. The emotional ups and downs of the training process and the family/friend pressures to preform are stressful, even for the viewer. As a Cleveland native, I get the added drama behind this film. The Cleveland High School wrestling scene is tough and comes with a lot of history. I experienced some family pressure to participate and do well in sports and I can see how these kids lives were effected. Good movie, good soundtrack and nice real world look into the pressures of a high school student.

  • Very True Representation of High School Wrestling at St. Edwards

    rook9112011-01-29

As St. Edward wrestling Alumni, My Brother and I, could relate to Lance and Collin. We were not as good as they were but still worked our butt off for 4 years in that room. This gives a true representation of a year in the life at St. Ed's Wrestling. I will watch this again and again when available on DVD. As for the work of the Lakewood wrestler, that is the sport. And I can actually relate to that more then Lances story. You work so hard to cut weight and train and practice moves to fall short of your goal. For the many that spent their childhood in the sport and to fall short of your goal in the end is very hard to deal with. Coaches always say to keep your eyes on the prize and work hard and you will get your rewards. Guess what? Life still happens sometimes and we all have to live with it. This Video hits home for me in so many ways and I think it will for all of us who put on wrestling shoes while most kids our age were still potty training. Wrestling is life to a lot of kids and finally a film to highlight that.

  • At least it gives perspective!

    michael-e-wasson2012-09-27

This was a hard movie to rate due to the subject matter. It is essentially a documentary, but a lot of the messages in the movie were very subtle. Things like empty beer bottles on a shelf gave a lot of insight into family dynamics, if you see them. The movie was obviously a labor of love for the film makers. I shudder to think how much footage they shot and edited a make the movie. But the final work is thorough and well-paced. And any wrestler will appreciate the subject matter and content. There have been many times when I wonder whether I push too hard. But after seeing the Palmer patron in action, I now know there are worst wrestling parents out there!
