Legion of Brothers (2017) Reviews

  • Not a Complete Picture

This documentary, and the brief synopsis offered here leaves the viewer/reader with the impression that military forces from the United States alone were involved. As is often the case with American documentary/fictional cinematography, focus is placed almost entirely on the American element leaving the viewer to assume that no other country participated. This leads to embarrassing situations when historical fact is challenged. Therefore, keep in mind that this documentary is representative of the American forces, specifically, the units mentioned and the brave men who formed them.

Legion of Brothers is a great documentary that not only is entertaining but, also shows the public what life is like when you're at war. This documentary did an amazing job of revealing the life of a soldier at war. Not only did we see challenges that he faced, we saw challenges that his family and loved ones faced. The family of the soldiers went through a very tough time as well and most people don't realize that, but this film highlighted that part of war. This documentary showed both the good and bad of war and didn't try to hide certain parts of it. We stepped into a soldiers shoes both in war and in civilian life. This is what made the film so special. Most war films are all about the action and gore but this film showed what it is really like. The country was hurting after 9/11 and this film did a great job of displaying the fight against terrorism as it really happened. War is not all action and firefights soldiers in war face a lot of adversity back home as well. This documentary was meant to really touch its viewers and show war as it really is, and that is exactly what it did.

The Facts from this Documentary added to the Facts from War Reporter Alex Quade's Documentary "Horse Soldiers of 9/11" plus the facts from Doug Stanton's "Horse Soldiers: The Extraordinary Story of a Band of US Soldiers Who Rode to Victory in Afghanistan" completes the Entire Story and Doug Stanton's description (a you tube video "Doug Stanton discusses "Horse Soldiers"") of how U.S. Army Special Forces are like "Jedi Knights, as "They don't look like your average everyday regular Army Soldier, often speak several languages, they often know so much about the Economy, Social Mores, and Cultural Habits of where it is they are going. They are really part Diplomat, Full Time Soldier, part Cultural Anthropologist, and trained to really blend into a Community and make things happen from it's middle and if they have to they are able to apply real Force to that situation, but they get a real kick out of actually trying to make things happen almost like a Jedi Knight without really having to put a finger to a trigger." Information they (U.S. Army Special Forces Team Members) did not know (reason for the mistakes in the Documentary) Does not include the U.S. Army Special Forces attached to CIA's Special Activities Directorate ("Division" SAD) and CIA's Special Operations Group (SOG) that went into Afghanistan days after the 9/11 2001 Attacks with the President Bush September 2001 Mission of CIA Operation Neptune Spear of Locating and Capturing Osama Bin Laden, and Eliminate those Responsible for the 9/11 2001 Attacks. There is about another page of information they (U.S. Army Special Forces Team Members did not know at that time). As U.S. Army Special Forces (From the other Groups like the U.S. Army 10th Special Forces Group and the U.S. Army's 10th Mountain Division entered Northern Iraq, October 2001 (not the 2002 stated in the Documentary).
