Kung Fury (2015) Reviews

  • Beautiful

If you are dying today, and you have survived 80's, this is what would be flashing in front of you in the moment of your death. The moment when VCR start syncing your tape is precious and it pushed me back to the past. Idiotic plot is well written, I was laughing sincerely. This movie is fun, entertaining and most of all, awesome. After watching it I went to the street and start fighting with everyone. I think I know karate now. It seams that there is going to be Kung Fury II, and I'm anxiously waiting for it from this moment on. It doesn't have any erotic scene, that is why I only gave it 9. But hopefully, sequel will be filled with 80's eroticism. Thank you Thor.

  • They f@#%ed with the wrong cop.

    ghostjunk2015-05-28

Struck by lightning and bit by a cobra, an ordinary cop has a revelation which helps him master a new form of Kung Fu so powerful that only he, the chosen one, can learn. With his newfound powers, he will stop at nothing to bring justice to the crime-infested streets of Miami. No one could have predicted what was about to come his way, however, once he must embark on a dangerous adventure back through time to avenge a fallen friend. Kung Fury not only put a permanent smile on my face throughout the entire movie, it completely blew me away and well exceeded my expectations. Writer/ director and lead actor David Sandberg may be the new kid on the block, but hell does he ever know how to make a debut! His character, who goes by the same name as the movie, is the perfect cross between Marty McFly, Steven Seagal, and a Ninja Turtle. But I think the film's biggest strength is that it never takes itself too seriously and remains self-aware of its hilarious and intentional cheese. You know you're about to get on board for something special as soon as you see the perfectly dated vintage look of the main titles and hear the old-school soundtrack the movie sports. The ode to retro games and electronics alone is worth seeing for the epic blast of nostalgia! I can tell a lot of time and passion went into the making of this short indie film and couldn't be prouder to have been one of the original Kickstarter funders that helped this project take off. What else can I say except Sandberg may have created the perfect recipe for awesome with this epically over-the-top homage to vintage action movies and the era of VHS tapes that any '80s kid could drool over!

  • Absolute nonsense, in the best kind of way.

    thisisbs9112015-05-28

Kung Fury is about a kung fu cop from 1985 who goes back in time to find Thor who then helps him go forward in time to fight Hitler and the Nazis. Does that make any sense? NO?! Good, now you're starting to get it. This is a collection of 80's clichés and culture but the dial was turned up to 11 and just broke. You ever play Far Cry: Blood Dragon? These guys did, and it inspired them to make a short film. Its kind of like a love letter to the silliness of 1980's American culture with a Swedish twist. To put it this way, do you like the 80's? Do you like cheesy schlock? Do you like neon pink lights? If so, then this is definitely worth your time.

  • So epic it hurts!

    h_a_eriksson2015-05-29

This is an epic movie. So epic it hurts. It is well produced and you can really feel that it's a genuine dream project of the creator. The pacing works brilliantly, the soundtrack fits perfect with the action and theme, and the special effects is really high class. Awesome in everything and just simply a great ride! It has laser shooting dinosaurs, kung fu, Vikings with guns, time travel, a Norse god, Adolf Hitler as villain etcetera etcetera. It is plus size extra everything crammed into 30 minutes. It's like riding a roller-coaster of 80s entertainment with everything from street fighter style fighting to a 80s flying credits. Plus, the director/writer/lead actor David Sandberg is strikingly attractive and works really well as the star Kung Fury. Good looking and bad-ass – what more do you need? You think this review is over the top? Well so is the movie. This movie turned me from a 30- something movie critic into a little fan boy.

  • 30 mins of 80's nostalgia of awesomeness

    MattBrady0992015-06-02

Hitler: (Phoning the police) "Hello is this the police?" Police officer on the phone: "Yes". Hitler: "Fuck you!" Kung Fury started off as a fan film made by David Sandberg that got released on the YouTube as 30 min short film, but in a matter of hours it was a big hit with it's views and the amount of people loved it because they got that nostalgic 80's feel to it. I got so much praised and so much love that it got a big release. So I checked it out myself just to see what was all the fuss about and I got to say that Kung Fury is the coolest action movie of 2015, it's right up there with Mad Max: Fury Road. What really surprise me is that this is just a fan movie and it blows my mind how fans can make a better and more well made movie then even Hollywood can sh*t out, I mean David Sandberg put a lot of effort to make the whole movie look like a out of date VHS tape and to catch the 80's magic and it payed off so well. The movie is really funny, the actor who played Hitler in the movie did really good and David Sandberg made a pretty awesome movie that's creative and fresh. For problems I had for this movie these only a couple like: These one scene towards the end that kind of lost me a little and that's the end battle with Hitler vs. Kung Fury. Some of the dialogue needs improving a little bit, but besides that this movie is awesome and it brought a lot of the 80's action fluff that we as movie lovers loved in the first place and it's so good to see it again in this brilliant 30 min short movie. It's free on YouTube if you want to check it out and the video is only 30 mins long and it was 30 mins of awesomeness.
