  • Batman Unlimited Mechs vs. Mutants: Think I've had my fill of Batman "Unlimited"

    Platypuschow2017-12-27

This third and likely final movie in the Batman Unlimited franchise takes the over the top'ness to a whole new level as we see DC channel the spirit of Pacific Rim. Mr Freeze teams with Penguin, Chemo, Clayface, Killer Croc & Bane in a plot to freeze the world and in doing so make themselves giant size. So what is a Batman to do? Combat them in a giant robot suit, duh! Once again this kiddie friendly effort is harmless but 50 shades of dumb. Still within the futuristic setting, with moderately tweaked characters and a script penned by kindergarteners. Mechs vs Mutants isn't bad, it's just aimed at a certain demographic and I'm certainly not it. The Good: Buzz the penguin The Bad: Just plain stupid in places (A lot of them) Still don't like the future setting Things I Learnt From This Movie: Chemo is one of the most unfortunately named characters in media history Bane vs Killer Croc > Batman vs Superman The fight choreographer was definetly a wrestling fan

  • Felt like a Saturday morning cartoon

    spmact2016-09-04

It might be because I'm used to previous Batman animated films feeling a little more film-like, but as I was watching this I couldn't help but feel that it was just a long version of a Saturday morning Batman cartoon for kids. The story had too many convenient plot points that just happened to work out, and there were a few too many cheesy on liners and characters saying things like "as if". It wasn't terrible, and had some interesting elements to it, but at the end of the day it's not a Batman animated film I can recommend for the more "mature" viewer. It would be fine for kids though. If I had to find a positive, it would be that the voice acting was well done. Also the animation was decent.

  • A tad too much...

Compared to other Batman animated movies such as "Batman: The Killing Joke" or "Batman: Under the Red Hood", then this 2016 animated movie was sort of like a massive step back if you are in the adult audience. However, I am sure that if you are a kid then you will enjoy this animated movie because it combines Batman and mechs. Right, well it was the absurdity of Batman and Green Arrow both having humongous mechs available at their leisure, and also that villains such as Killer Croc and Bane were pumped up to gargantuan size that really didn't sit well with me. It was just too much, actually it was ludicrous. The story is about Mr. Freeze whom turns Killer Croc and Bane into super-sized mutant monsters and sets them free upon Gotham. And in comes the caped crusader and his team of superheroes to save the day and save Gotham. I will say that the animation is very smooth and nice to look at, and the drawing style is also quite good. But it doesn't have that dark twist that Gotham and Batman should have. It is just too cartoony, if you know what I mean. Hence the above-mentioned reference for this movie appealing to a younger audience. The voice acting, which is really all-important to an animated movie, was quite good in "Batman Unlimited: Mechs vs. Mutants". Although it would be preferable if they had the same actor voice the same character in the myriad of animated movies. But that is perhaps just wishful thinking. All in all, then I wasn't impressed with "Batman Unlimited: Mechs vs. Mutants", nor can I claim that I was particularly entertained by it. But my six year old son was enjoying it.

  • Gotham Rim

For any complaining this film isn't as mature or tightly woven in plot as the likes of 'Under the Red Hood' or 'The Killing Joke', I think they're misunderstanding the whole point of the Batman Unlimited line. This is meant for younger kids and I feel it does a great job at that without being obnoxious. I'm much older than this demographic, but I still found it enjoyable and entertaining. There wasn't anything that upset me about this movie and it legitimately entertained me. And if a movie, an entertainment medium, does that; it certainly didn't fail. Not everything needs to be dripping with characterization and plot or be dark and gritty when it comes to Batman. Sometimes you just want to have fun with your favorite characters and the Dark Knight along with the other DC heroes is no exception. The animation looks great and the fights are very mobile, so there's always something to look at; and there's some nice character moments still there. I found this Damien Wayne a lot more enjoyable than even the comics version. As a kaiju and mecha genre fan, I got a big kick out of this film. If you saw and liked Pacific Rim, you'll think it's a hoot as the film is constantly giving you shout-outs. It doesn't get to the rip-off territory, but more like an honestly happy homage with the visuals and soundtrack. We got a movie with Green Arrow and Batman slugging it out with a Godzilla sized Killer Croc and Hulked-Out and Hulked-Up Bane while bass guitars are strum in the background. If that doesn't bring out your typical sci-fi/comic geek's inner child, I don't know what will. I expected this film to be tacky, very toy pandering, immature, and just plain bad; and had high hopes for 'The Killing Joke'. As of the closing of 2016, that opinion has entirely reversed. Mechs vs. Mutants is a happily fun, entertaining romp with some nice homages; knowing exactly what it is and excelling at it. Put it on for the tots and even if you're older, I can see all but the most hardlined dark Batman and DC fans finding something to enjoy.

  • Batman VS Gundam : Gundam wins

    gaslei2017-10-15

This Batman Unlimited series is going from mediocre to bad and from there to worse. Batman, the greatest detective, the smart, the ultimate human has turn into a Gundam fighter. I mean, what went wrong? What's with all this mech? Sure innovation was always part of Batman's stories but Bats was always there in center of this like a flashing bacon. As I am writing this the final battle takes place and I don't care the least. I am sad with all of this. My only hope is that it was created with the sole purpose of selling toys and is not actually where the Batman's franchise is heading.
